Analysis of Triazine Herbicides in Water Using LC-MS/MS and TraceFinder Software 12 Jul 2010: In this application note, TraceFinder software was used in conjunction with an online preconcentration system, EQuan™, for the robust and reproducible analysis of large volumes of drinking water. Triazines were quantitated at the sub-ppt level, and several commercial bottled drinking water samples and one sugar-free soda sample were analyzed for the presence of triazines. Accurately Quantify PAHs Down to 5 pg On-Column 12 Jul 2010: Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are common environmental pollutants, affecting air, water, and soil quality. This application note presents the Rxi®-5Sil MS column and optimized temperature program as an excellent solution to the challenges posed by SIM PAH analyses. This GC/MS SIM analysis allows for a very broad calibration range, in this case 2000-fold from 5pg to 10ng while maintaining exceptional linearity. Restek Corp.

Anti-Doping Control Using Comprehensive Multidimensional Gas Chromatography Time-off-Flight Mass Spectrometry (GCxGC-TOFMS) for Enhanced Detection off Anaboliic Steroids iin Urine 29 Jun 2010: This application demonstrates that steroid screening is improved significantly by GCxGC-TOFMS compared to onedimensional chromatography using GCMS. Excellent calibration linearity for quantitation was achieved for all analytes at greater than 99.9%. Limits of detection at part per trillion levels were calculated from acquired data for all five steroids. LECO Corp.

Analysis of Drug Facilitated Sexual Assault (DFSA) Drugs by Gas Chromatography-Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry 29 Jun 2010: This poster displays the ability of GC-TOFMS to effectively screen case-study urine samples for the presence of potential DFSA drugs. The use of mass spectral deconvolution algorithms can increase sample throughput by reducing the need for total chromatographic resolution which allows shorter run times. Of the 24 samples analyzed, 16 contained drugs that would be considered potential DFSA drugs. LECO Corp.

Advantages of High Resolution Multi-Reflecting Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry for Rapid and Comprehensive Pesticide Screening in Food Extracts 29 Jun 2010: To poster demonstrates the use of an ultra-high resolution, multi-reflecting time-of-flight mass spectrometer (MRT) for the identification and quantification of multiple pesticide residues in food extracts. Sub-ppm mass accuracy and isotope abundance accuracy can be used to provide unambiguous molecular formula confirmation of targeted and non-targeted analytes. LECO Corp.

LC/MS/MS Analysis of Diuretics in Urine: Prevent Matrix Interference with Proper Column Choice 03 Jun 2010: This application note shows how choosing a selective, retentive, and inert RP-HPLC column can improve the quality of analytical data. Because of its high degree of unique aromatic selectivity based on π-π interactions, the Ultra II® Biphenyl column can retain hydrophilic aromatic compounds better than phenyl hexyl columns, while still achieving a fast, 8-minute run time including re-equilibration. LpxC RapidFire® Screening Analysis 03 Jun 2010: LpxC represents an attractive target for therapeutics. This application note presents a RapidFire high‐throughput mass spec method for both the gram positive and the gram negative bacteria LpxC enzyme. This method screens the LpxC catalyzed reaction using the native reaction substrate, resulting in significant number of hits for client lead discovery programs. BIOCIUS Life Sciences

Detemination of Melamine Residue in Water Samples by UPLC/MS/MS 24 May 2010: In 2008 melamine contamination of milk created a serious food safety situation in China. This application note demonstrates UPLC/MS/MS analyses which can be carried out in 1 minute, with a recovery of 101.8±10.7% and a precision of 3.2%. With the range covering three magnitudes, the linear coefficient is greater than 0.99 and the detective limit is up to 0.5ng/L. Waters

The Determination of Toxic, Essential and Nutritional Elements in Food Matrices Using the NexION 300 ICP-MS 24 May 2010: This application note describes the use of a next generation ICP mass spectrometer for the determination of toxic, essential and nutritional elements in foodstuffs. The study demonstrates how selective attenuation of the cell quadrupole bandpass allows macro-level minerals to be determined without dilution in the same sample run as the trace elements. PerkinElmer, Inc.
